In 1989, people from all across China gathered I Tianamen Square in central Beijing for a political and economical reform. Theunarmed, peaceful protests were held to mourn the death of the liberal communist party leader Hu Yaobang and to call for an end to official corruption.
Hundreds of student protesters went on hunger strike on the 13th of May and ended it on the 19th. In the following weeks similar demonstration took place in cities all across China.
To stop the protests, the government sent armed troops and armoured military vehicles overnight from the third to the fourth of June, to “restore order” in the Capital. Unarmed protesters and onlookers where killed en masse, whilst noone knows the death toll from Tiananmen that night.
