In collaboration with the “Südtiroler Künstlerbund” (artists association of South Tyrol) and the HGV (association of Gastronomy) we set an edition of 22 pieces plus an original artwork wich connects art-world and gastronomy.
The edition of 22 pieces consists of a card game with cards for the traditional game “Watten” from South Tyrol, composed by 33 cards. The figure of the so called “Ober” (which in German means Servicemen/woman) gets to be an actual servicemen/woman, while the figure of the King is represented by the Client (in German there is a phrase that says: “The client is king”).
Also one can find the figures of the “Unter” represented by the cooks, and the highest card of the deck, the Ace, represented by the lower working class of the mostly female "cleaning an room service".
Each colour is representing a characteristic section of gastronomy: Hearts for wellness, Leafs for the wine, acorns for the food and “schell” for the working positions of the hotel.
The table stands as a basis to bring togheter food culture and card game. As a traditional form of entertainment the card game Watten has its origin from farmers on the mountains, where people used to eat and drink while enjoying company and card games. Nowadays, the act of playing card games in restaurants and bars is forbidden in Italy, because it’s considered gambling. The painted table becomes a symbol for communication, merging food culture and games, art and the pleasure of coming togheter.
